Overall Gameplay & Balance was changed so drastically. My main issues with SD 2 are the following:ġ) SD 2 is essentially an RTS Unit Spamfest Simulator My wet dream of an RTS game would be the "SD 2 Engine" with "SD 44 gameplay" set in the "WH 40K Universe" played on Excellent Maps to match the different 40K settings, with map/mod tools post game launch. I could see some "slight" tweaking & "slight" balance adjustment with units in SD 44, there were some legit complaints, but not to drastically create a one shot one kill spam fest game play environment that SD 2 has. It's as if the developers spent countless hours in SD 44 testing the balance of units to make the game fun, then the shallow & weak minded RTS fan base started to cry about certain units without testing to see what unit composition(s) worked best to counter each unit.

So here we have SD 2 that looks fantastic, is very smooth, has a lot of cool features that streamline the game play. Then we got the Re-Boot version with one resource, less upgrades, all watered down providing a fast pace for the shallow & weak minded RTS fan base. But a large portion of the fan base cried & said it was too hard to push out of your base to secure more resources- wa wa wa wa wa. Eugene systems created an RTS game with excellent pacing- not too fast & not too slow. Just no fun at all for me.Īct of Aggression was a masterpiece of Old School RTS gaming brought back to life with a few more economy layers stacked on to make the game play even more interesting & challenging. SD 2 looks better & is much smoother with a lot of cool upgraded features that streamline the game play, but it plays completely different. One other thing to keep in mind is that most of the mods for N44 (and, indeed, the base game) are no longer being actively updated, whereas 2 is. N44 condenses those into one "damage" stat, which works in all three areas less realistic, but easier to keep track of in the heat of battle. In 2, weapons have a variety of stats, including penetration (in mm), damage output, and suppression. Probably the best example, IMO, of the difference between the two games is in the weapon stats.

For example, N44 maps tend to be smaller, so there's less of a front to defend, while 2 has a "quick hunt" order ("hunt" being these games' version of "attack move:" N44 makes you choose between moving quickly on roads but being vulnerable to ambushes, or attack-moving, but not gaining the speed advantage of roads). The way I see it, N44 is easier, but 2 has more features. I don't play multiplayer, so your mileage may vary. I personally prefer N44 over 2, but that's just my preference.
